PORTSMOUTH PARTNERSHIP - ROGER BROWN'S BOX SCORE
PORTSMOUTH, VA. - Former Pirate point guard Jordan Theodore continued to make his mark at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament on Friday night under the watchful eyes of a number of NBA scouts.
Theodore was one of 64 seniors selected to play in the 60th annual installment of the event, which has become one of the marquee showcases leading up to the NBA Draft in June.
For the eight-team, four-day tournament, Theodore was placed on the Portsmouth Partnership squad along with fellow BIG EAST alum Yancy Gates of Cincinnati.
Through two games, Theodore is tied with Oregon's Davoe Joseph and Erving Walker of Florida with a tournament-best 13 assists.
Portsmouth Partnership had advanced to Friday's second round game by virtue of an 85-79 win over the Mike Duman team on Thursday night.
In his team's opening game, Theodore shot 6-for-15 from the field, scoring 14 points. The Englewood native also added a game-high seven assists against only two turnovers.
On Friday, Theodore came off the bench to score 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting in a 93-73 loss to Roger Brown's.
Despite the defeat, Theodore continued to display the court vision and passing ability that helped him set the SHU single season assists record in 2011-12, handing out six helpers in 23 minutes to once again lead all players.
The result places Portsmouth Partnership in Saturday's third-place game against Cherry, Bekaert & Holland. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Fellow former Seton Hall standout Herb Pope was also selected to the 64-man pool but withdrew from the tournament after suffering a minor injury in the opener.
Pope finished with four points, four rebounds, three blocks and three steals in 24 minutes in Thursday's contest.
