SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard announced today that Kyle Smyth (River Edge, N.J.) has transferred to the University and will be eligible to play basketball for the Pirates this fall.
Smyth, a four-year letterwinner at Iona College, can transfer and play immediately without having to sit out a year per standard transfer regulations because has graduated and Seton Hall offers his preferred graduate program. Smyth played for Kevin Willard during his first two seasons at Iona.
"I'm very excited to have Kyle on my team again," said Willard. "He's an excellent long-distance shooter, who will provide leadership and experience to our young team. Kyle possesses key intangibles that make him a great fit for our roster."
Smyth leaves Iona as one of the school's top three-point shooters of all-time. The 6-foot-4 guard has 163 career made three-pointers and his 75 made during the 2010-11 season was the third-highest single-season total in school history. Smyth has averaged over 20 minutes per game in each of the last three years for the Gaels and averaged a career-best 10.1 points per game as a sophomore. He was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team following his freshman year.
Prior to attending Iona, Smyth was a varsity letterwinner at Don Bosco Prep leading the squad to one of its best four-year stints in school history including a state record tying three straight Bergen County Championships. As a senior, he averaged 13.6 points and 4.3 assists en route to an All-North Jersey First Team selection.
Seton Hall will open the 2012-13 campaign with the University of Missouri - Kansas City on Friday, November 9, 2012. Season tickets are available by calling 973-275-HALL.
