WGolf Sixth After Round 1 at Yale

NEW HAVEN, CONN. - Junior Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) fired a 3-over-par, 75, in the first round of the 2012 Yale Women's Fall Intercollegiate to pace the Seton Hall women's golf team to a sixth place standing with 36 holes remaining.
The Pirates find themselves 14 strokes off the team lead, chasing Nova Southeastern which has a six stroke lead entering round two. Seton Hall fired an 18-over-par, 306, in round one and is in sixth place of a talented 16-team field. The lone BIG EAST competition is Rutgers, which is 10 strokes behind the Pirates entering day two.
"I'm really proud of the ladies' effort today," said Head Coach Sara Doell. "This is a very challenging golf course with difficult hole locations. I was especially impressed with Hannah's effort given the fact that she just had stiches removed from her hand."
Basalone cut her hand making lunch last week, which hindered her effort at the St. John's Intercollegiate. After one round in New Haven however, she finds herself tied for 11th place among 89 golfers.
Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) had a rough finish to an otherwise fantastic first round. The freshman bogeyed her last three holes to finish with a 4-over-par, 76. Tenhundfeld is seeking her record third top-10 finish to begin her collegiate career.
The top four Pirate golfers all finished within three strokes of each other. Only one stroke behind Tenhundfeld is St. John's Intercollegiate individual champion Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.). The sophomore is tied for 29th place following her 5-over-par, 77. A stroke behind Kruse is Christina Cantũ (Houston, Texas), tied for 31st at 6-over-par.
Freshman Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) rounds out the Pirates' scoring after round one with a 13-over-par, 85.
