PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall's Amanda Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis.) was named BIG EAST Volleyball Freshman of the Week after helping lead the Pirates to victories in their first two conference matches. Sophomore Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Hansen was instrumental in getting the Pirates off to an undefeated start to BIG EAST play last weekend. The 6-foot-2 middle blocker led the Pirates in attack percentage in both of Seton Hall's victories and committed a total of only two attack errors all week. Hansen had seven kills and a .412 attack percentage in SHU's victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday. On Sunday, she recorded a career-high 12 kills with a .500 attack percentage as the Pirates snapped USF's seven-match win streak.
Manthorpe's recognition is her second by the BIG EAST this season as she was named Player of the Week on Aug. 27. The Pirates' setter recorded her fifth triple-double of the season in Seton Hall's 3-1 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday. Manthorpe registered a match-high 34 assists to go with 12 kills and 16 digs. On Sunday, she narrowly missed another, finishing with a match-high 34 assists to go with eight kills and seven digs in Seton Hall's victory over USF.
Collectively, the Pirates have now won 10 straight matches, their longest streak since 1996. Seton Hall's overall record of 13-1 is its best start to a season since the 1992 campaign.
Other weekly honors include: Notre Dame's Toni Alugbue being named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Joining Manthorpe on the Honor Roll are Cincinnati's Emily MacIntyre, Connecticut's Mattison Quayle, Marquette's Elizabeth Koberstein and Pittsburgh's Alexa Campbell.
Hansen, Manthorpe and the Pirates will return to action this Tuesday, September 25 when they host Saint Peter's at Walsh Gym. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
