
Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight With Stony Sweep

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Stacey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) and Amanda Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis.) led an efficient offense as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team swept Stony Brook, 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-10), on Tuesday.The victory is the fourth straight for Seton Hall, which moves over .500 (11-10) for the first time this season after starting the year 1-5. The streaking Pirates have now won six of their last seven matches.
Manthorpe recorded a match-high 16 kills, with only two attack errors, and led the Pirates with an impressive .538 attack percentage. Hansen had 11 kills and didn't commit a single error in 16 attacks for a remarkable .688 attack percentage. As a team, the Pirates hit at a .372 clip, compared to just .104 for Stony Brook.
Senior Alyssa Warren (Joliet, Ill.) again led the defense with a match-high 18 digs, while Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) finished one dig shy of a double-double with a match-high 33 assists and nine digs.
Seton Hall took control of the match from the early-goings of the first set and never relinquished. Stony Brook led 5-2 in set one, but the Pirates responded with a 7-1 run to take a 9-6 lead. From there on, the Seawolves didn't lead again for the remainder of the match. Stony Brook cut the Pirates' lead to 12-10, but Seton Hall went on a 6-1 run and Stacey Manthorpe's kill gave The Hall an 18-11 advantage. The Pirates went on to a 25-18 first set victory aided by five kills by Hansen.
Set two was more of the same dominance by Seton Hall. The Pirates scored the first four points of the set and extended its lead to 11-3 on an ace by Stacey Manthorpe. Leading 17-9, Seton Hall scored six of the next eight points to take a commanding 23-11 lead, and cruised to a 25-14 set two victory.
The Pirates completed the three-set sweep with a dominant performance in set three. Already leading 7-4, Seton Hall scored the next 12 straight points to take a commanding 19-4 lead. With the match all but secured, both teams made several substitutions, and Seton Hall went on to win set three, 25-10.
The Pirates will return to action on Friday, October 25 when they host Butler. Match time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
