BETHLEHEM, PA. - Junior Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) fired a 1-over-par, 73, in the first round of the 2013 Lehigh University Invitational to lead the Seton Hall women's golf team to a second place standing entering Monday's final round.
McClure is currently tied for second place among all individual golfers and trails Boston University's Kristyna Pavlickova by two strokes for the individual lead.
Collectively, the Pirates are entering Monday's final round three strokes behind the team leader, Harvard. Seton Hall shot an 18-over-par, 306, in round one. The Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, Georgetown, is currently in fifth place at 29-over-par.
Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) can also claim an individual title tomorrow. The junior is just one stroke behind McClure after a 2-over-par, 74, and trails the individual leader by three strokes. She is currently tied for fourth place overall.
Sophomore Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) is in seventh place following her 4-over-par, 76.
Classmate Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) shot an 11-over-par, 83, while junior McKenzie Cutter (Waldorf, Md.) had a first round 18-over-par, 90.
"Erin, Ali and Megan were really consistent today," said head coach Sara Doell. "We're in a position to make a move tomorrow and finish our fall season on a high note. I'm looking forward to getting back on the course and seeing what our final round brings."
Eight teams are competing on Saucon Valley's Grace Course with Boston University, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Harvard, Navy and Princeton joining host Lehigh and the Pirates. The teams will compete on the par-72 course for two-days and 36 holes.
Saucon Valley Country Club, founded in 1920, has grown from 18 holes and a clubhouse to become one of the largest private clubs in North America. It encompasses 800 acres and consists of four courses, including the Weyhill Course, Old Course, Grace Course and Short Course. The Grace Course opened with nine holes in the fall of 1953 with the second nine opened for play in 1958. Named for Eugene Gifford Grace (Lehigh Class of 1899), longtime president and chairman of Bethlehem Steel, the Grace Course measures 7,051 yards from the championship tees and features greens nearly twice the size of those on the Old Course but without the severe contours.
Seton Hall will complete the 2013 fall season with the final round of the Lehigh University Invitational on Monday. Results will be available at SHUpirates.com following the day's completion.
