CINCINNATI, OHIO - Junior Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) tallied her third straight triple-double, but it wasn't enough as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell in its first-ever meeting with Xavier, 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 16-25, 21-25), on Friday.
Manthorpe recorded her fifth triple-double of the season with 10 kills, 31 assists and 21 digs. She also had a season-high six blocks. Last season, she led the nation with eight triple-doubles.

Xavier (9-6, 2-0) jumped out to a 10-6 lead early in set one, but the Pirates stormed back with an 8-2 run and Hansen's kill gave them a 14-12 lead. The Musketeers scored the next point, but the Pirates scored the following five to take a commanding 19-13 advantage. Xavier cut the lead to two at 21-19, but Seton Hall held on to win set one, 25-21. Shelbey Manthorpe had a strong first set with two kills, four blocks and 11 assists.
The Musketeers set the tone early in set two, scoring the first four points, but Seton Hall methodically closed the gap and another kill by Hansen eventually tied the set at 13. After Xavier jumped ahead again, blocks by Ashani Rubin (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Kayla Kohler (Whitehall, Pa.) cut the Xavier lead to just one at 18-17. But the Musketeers scored seven of the last nine points of the set to win set two, 25-19, and tie the match at one set apiece.
Set three was all Xavier. With Seton Hall leading 2-1, the Musketeers went on a 9-3 run to take a 10-5 lead. An attack error allowed the Pirates to pull to within two at 14-12, but Xavier responded with a 5-1 run to take a commanding 19-13 advantage. Seton Hall didn't get closer than five points for the remainder of the set and fell, 25-16, to take a two-sets-to-one match lead.
Xavier scored four of the first five points in set four and maintained a sizeable advantage throughout much of the set. With the Musketeers leading 18-12, Seton Hall scored three straight to cut the Xavier lead to 18-15. After Xavier increased their lead to 21-15, the Pirates scored six straight points and a kill by Danielle Schroeder (Chicago, Ill.) tied the score at 21. But Seton Hall didn't score again and Xavier finished the set and match with four straight points.
