INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The Seton Hall women's volleyball team lost at Butler, 3-0 (13-25, 16-25, 17-25), on Sunday in their first-ever meeting with the Bulldogs.Junior Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) registered a double-double with a team-high 22 assists to go with 14 digs.
Senior Alyssa Warren (Joliet, Ill.) finished with a team-high 15 digs, while Stacey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) led the Seton Hall offense with seven kills.
Butler (16-3, 3-1) got started fast in set one and jumped out to a 10-3 lead. Seton Hall couldn't rally from the slow start and never pulled closer than five points. Leading 19-13, Butler scored the last six points of the set to defeat the Pirates, 25-13, and take an early match lead.
Seton Hall (5-9, 0-3) started better in set two, but couldn't maintain a lead. Stacey Manthorpe's kill gave the Pirates an early 4-2 lead, but Butler tied the set at four and slowly began to pull away. With Butler leading 11-10, the Bulldogs scored six of the next seven points to take a 16-11 lead. Leading 20-15, Butler went on another run, scoring five of the final six points of the set to win, 25-16, in set two.
In set three, Seton Hall remained close early, but never led and Butler gradually pulled away from the start. Leading 17-12, Butler went on a 6-1 run to take a commanding 23-13 lead. The Pirates attempted a late comeback, but fell in set three, 25-17, thus losing the match, three-sets-to-none.
Seton Hall will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 8 when it makes its 2013 Walsh Gym debut against Hofstra. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
