SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall women's golf head coach Sara Doell announced on Thursday the official signing of recruits Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.) and Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio). Both newcomers will hit the links for the Pirates in the fall of 2014.
The additions came on the first day of the November signing period and bolster a roster that will lose four seniors, including standout Hannah Basalone, to graduation.
"I truly believe that Macky and Cassie are the two players that we need to take the torch from our graduating seniors," Doell said. "We have had some great success in our first four years and these two players will keep us on that path."
Fouse, the youngest of five sisters in her family, was a standout at Central Valley High School just outside of Pittsburgh. She has tallied several top-5 finishes in junior tours such as the PGA Junior Series, the International Junior Golf Tour and the Plantations Junior Golf Tour. Fouse finished third at the Pennsylvania Junior Girls State Championship in July, and most recently, won the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association High School Girls Championship last month.
"I am very excited that Macky is joining us in the fall of 2014," Doell said. "She's very energetic, loves the game of golf and is very open to learning. She called me after her win in the PIAA Championship to tell me about it and the sound in her voice is why I recruited her. She sounded excited, happy and humble all at the same time. I believe she is a very strong fit for this program and I'm excited to work with her and help her reach her athletic goals as a Pirate."
A talented young golfer from Jackson High School in Ohio, Pantelas has recorded a number of top-5 finishes on the Golf Week Junior Tour. She placed third at the AJGA-Nemacolin Even in June, and most recently, finished second at the Ohio State High School Girls Golf Championship. Pantelas fired a hole-in-one, en route to a 68, during the high school sectionals.
"Cassie was certainly a very valuable find for us," Doell said. "I was actually at an AJGA event to watch Macky compete and happened to stumble across Cassie's group. I watched her play three holes and she made par, birdie, par, and ended with a fist pump. She had the look of a player, the attitude of a player and a really solid game. I immediately wrote her an email, expressing Seton Hall's interest in her. After speaking with her and having her on campus for an unofficial visit, I knew she was the player we were looking for."
