SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Head coach Kevin Willard and the Seton Hall University men's basketball program has announced the signing of Khadeen Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin), Angel Delgado (Bronx, N.Y./Huntington Prep), Ismael Sanogo (Newark, N.J./East Side High School) and Isaiah Whitehead (Brooklyn, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln) who will all enroll the university in 2014 and have four years of eligibility for the Pirates.
Collectively, the acclaimed group ranks as a consensus top-10 recruiting class in the nation and among the top-classes in the BIG EAST. The SHU class is ranked seventh in the country across the board among major online recruiting services such as CBSSports.com, ESPN.com, Rivals.com and Scout.com, while CBS, ESPN and Rivals have dubbed it the top-rated class in the conference.
"We are excited to officially welcome Isaiah, Angel, Khadeen and Ismael to the Seton Hall basketball family," said Willard. "The future for Pirate basketball looks bright with this talented group headed to South Orange next season. This class has an opportunity to elevate Seton Hall basketball to new heights and leave their mark on this program."
A 6-foot-3, 185 pound guard in the mold of so many New York City greats before him, Carrington has asserted himself as one of the most prolific scorers in the five boroughs over his career at Bishop Loughlin. A southpaw with a noted ability to fill it up in a hurry, he averaged 24.7 points for the Lions and head coach Ed Gonzalez last season while leading the squad to the CHSAA 'AA' intersectional championship game. A Daily News All-City selection as a junior, Carrington enters his senior campaign widely-regarded as one of the top-100 players in the nation.
Heralded as one of the most gifted prep rebounders across the country, Angel Delgado signs on to join The Hall after a meteoric rise due to his showings at elite showcases such as the LeBron James Skills Academy and the NBPA Top-100 Camp and is currently rated as one of the elite power forward prospects in the class. Delgado is slated to play his senior season at national power Huntington Prep (W. Va.) after previously suiting up for Redemption Christian Academy in Troy, N.Y. where he averaged over 17 points and 13 rebounds per contest as a junior.
Carrington and Delgado both excelled as AAU teammates with the Long Island Lightning under coaches Dana Dingle and Shandue McNeil, emerging as two of the top players during the 2013 Nike Elite Youth Basketball League. Carrington was one of the leading scorers for the Lightning and finished second on the team in assists while the 6-foot-8 Delgado led the squad in total points and ranked first at the tournament in rebounds. Up against a field ripe with highly-touted prospects, Delgado powered his way to 208 boards in 18 appearances; an average of 11.6/game.
A native of the Dominican Republic, he is a member of the nation's national team program and was also named the Most Valuable Player of the Nike All-Star Game at the NBA Basketball Without Borders Americas event in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Sanogo is a local product out of Newark who has starred for nearby East Side High School as a combo forward. At 6-foot-7 and 190 pounds, the versatile wing player is known as a difference-maker on both ends of the floor and plays with an aggressive style reminiscent of current SHU senior and fellow Garden State native Fuquan Edwin (Paterson, N.J.), who has blossomed into one of the top performers in the BIG EAST since joining the Hall out of Paterson Catholic in 2010. As a junior, Sanogo was a focal point of an East Side team that amassed a 25-7 record for co-head coaches Anthony Tavares and Bryant Garvin; capturing the school's first NJSIAA Group 3 title in over a decade. In his final high school campaign, he will start for the Red Raiders for the third consecutive season after starring for the New Jersey Roadrunners and head coach Sandy Pyonin on the AAU circuit and figures to fit in nicely in a program that has produced a school record number of BIG EAST Academic All-Stars under Willard as he currently carries a grade-point average over 3.0.
The highest nationally-rated player to come out of New York City in five years, Isaiah Whitehead has more than capably assumed the role once filled by the likes of Stephon Marbury, Sebastian Telfair and Lance Stephenson as a star for Lincoln High School in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn. As a junior, Whitehead helped the Railsplitters and head coach Dwayne (Tiny) Morton climb back to the pinnacle of the high school hoops scene in the Big Apple; capturing the school's 12th City championship. The 6-foot-4 guard also played under Morton with the Juice All-Stars AAU Program and has been an All-City performer in every year since he was a freshman at Lincoln. Widely-regarded as one of the most potent scoring talents in the entire nation, he proved he was worthy of such widespread acclaim during the summer of 2013, earning co-MVP honors at the Under Armour Elite 24 event that featured the top prospects in the nation and leading the New York Team to the title at the Nike Tournament of Champions, as he and Carrington helped guide a squad of the Empire State's best past team New Jersey in the final.
