The Seton Hall University women's basketball team wraps up its four-game home stand against UMass Lowell on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. The Pirates are a perfect 6-0 at Walsh Gym so far this season while UMass Lowell is 0-8 overall and 0-6 on the road. This will be the first-ever meeting between Seton Hall and UMass Lowell. The Pirates are in the midst of a stretch of four-straight games against where they are facing a school for the first time in program history.
SETON HALL STATUS
Seton Hall won the SHU Thanksgiving Classic last weekend with victories over Savannah State and Fresno State at Walsh Gymnasium. Sophomore Tabatha Richardson-Smith was named the Thanksgiving Classic Most Valuable Player after averaging a double-double with 18.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in two games. Redshirt junior Ka-Deidre Simmons and redshirt freshman Sidney Cooklanded on the Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team.
UMASS LOWELL STATUS
UMass Lowell fell to 0-8 with a 90-57 loss at Old Dominion on Wednesday afternoon. The River Hawks' game with Seton Hall is the sixth contest in a stretch of nine-straight games away from home. Shannon Samuels (14.9 ppg) and Jasmine McRoy (10.1 ppg) lead UMass Lowell offensively. The River Hawks have been outrebounded by 18.9 boards per contest and are allowing opponents to shoot 47.0 percent.
SETON HALL VS. THE AMERICA EAST
Seton Hall is 9-4 all-time against the current members of the America East Conference, but the Pirates have never faced UMass Lowell. The last meeting with a member of the America East came on Dec. 17, 2011, when Seton Hall defeated Stony Brook, 65-30, in Walsh Gym. The Pirates will face Stony Brook in their final non-conference game of the year on Dec. 31.
QUAD DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Seton Hall has already seen four different players record at least one double-double this season, which is the most for the Pirates since the 2004-05 campaign. That year it took the Pirates 16 games before the fourth-player registered a double-double, but this season the Hall needed just seven games to accomplish the feat. With four double-doubles already this season, Seton Hall already has as many as it recorded during the entire 2012-13 campaign.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Seton Hall defeated Fresno State, 64-58, in the SHU Thanksgiving Classic Championship Game on Nov. 30. Sophomore Tabatha Richardson-Smith averaged a double-double at the two-day tournament with 18.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game to pick up Most Valuable Player honors. Redshirt junior point guard Ka-Deidre Simmons and redshirt freshman forward Sidney Cooklanded on the All-Tournament Team. Simmons averaged 13.5 ppg in the tournament and dished out a season-high eight assists in the win over Fresno State. Cook averaged a double-double and scored 14 points with 14 rebounds against Fresno State.
BACK-TO-BACK
Sophomore Tabatha Richardson-Smithlanded on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for a second week in a row on Dec. 2. She is the first Pirate to earn Honor Roll recognition in consecutive weeks since Noteisha Womack on Dec. 22 and Dec. 29, 2008. Richardson-Smith picked up her second conference accolade after averaging 18.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game at the Seton Hall Thanksgiving Classic.
HOT START
Seton Hall is off to a 6-1 start for the first time since 2008 and for just the second-time overall since the start of the 1994-95 season. In 2008 the Pirates jumped out to an 11-1 start before suffering their second loss of the season. The 1994-95 team started 11-1 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
ANOTHER FIRST-TIME DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Redshirt freshman forward Sidney Cookbecame the fourth Seton Hall player this season to record her first-career double-double. Cook scored 14 points and pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds to help lead Seton Hall to a 64-58 win over Fresno State.
BROKEN GLASS
Three different Seton Hall players set new career-highs in rebounding in the 51-42 win over Savannah State on Nov. 29. Sophomore Tabatha Richardson-Smith, who finished with a double-double, grabbed 13 boards, as did redshirt freshman Sidney Cook. Graduate Breanna Jones finished with a career-best 10 boards. It was the first time reaching double figures in rebounding for all three players.
