
Gibbs Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall red-shirt sophomore guard Sterling Gibbs (Scotch Plains, N.J.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after averaging 21.5 points and 4.5 assists in a 2-0 week for the Pirates. He delivered his top performance against archrival Rutgers, scoring a game-high 27 points en route to a 77-71 road victory Sunday. Gibbs is the third Seton Hall player to receive a BIG EAST men's basketball weekly award in four weeks this season, joining Fuquan Edwin (11/18 - Honor Roll) and Jaren Sina (11/25 - Rookie of the Week).
Gibbs boasted a 4.5/1 assist/turnover ratio, shot 93.8% (15-16) from the free-throw line and converted 46.2% (6-13) of his three-point attempts last week. He also averaged 2.0 steals per game.
The 6-2 guard from Scotch Plains, N.J. was lights out against the Scarlet Knights shooting 7-for-12 from the field, including a 3-for-4 mark from beyond the arc. Gibbs buried all10 of his free-throw attempts and sank four in the last 1:23 seconds to seal the Pirates' victory at Rutgers. He finished with a game-high four assists and four rebounds in 32 minutes of action.
Earlier in the week, Gibbs posted 16 points, five assists and three steals to help lift Seton Hall to a 91-82 victory over LIU-Brooklyn. He sank three trifectas and hit 5-of-6 free-throw attempts.
Gibbs currently stands in the top-10 of the BIG EAST this season in assists (4.3/game) and free-throw shooting (.830). He leads the Pirates with 16.0 points per game, which ranks 11th in the conference.
Creighton's Doug McDermott was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week. Xavier guard Myles Davis earned Rookie of the Week. Kellen Dunham (Butler), Sir'Dominic Pointer (St. John's), JayVaughn Pinkston (Villanova) and Semaj Christon (Xavier) were also named to the Honor Roll.
Seton Hall carries its two-game win streak into Tuesday's contest with NJIT. Tip-off is slated for 9 p.m. at the Prudential Center. The game will be televised live on FOX Sports 1 and on the radio 970 AM WNYM.
Through a partnership between Seton Hall Athletics and the University's Division of Volunteer Efforts (D.O.V.E.) fans are invited to "Pay What You Want" for tickets to the contest with NJIT. All proceeds from the promotion supporting mission trips to El Salvador and Haiti.
