SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Members of the Seton Hall men’s basketball team spent Friday morning giving back to the local community as they volunteered their time at the Saint John’s Soup Kitchen in Newark, N.J. The Pirates aided the dedicated staff at Saint John’s in distributing hundreds of meals to the needy. They also assisted in organizing the pantry for future meals that will be served.
“Lending a hand in the local community is very important to our basketball program. As representatives of Seton Hall University, we want to do our part to let the community know that we care about them,” said Head Coach Kevin Willard. “We are just thankful to have the opportunity to help out in any way we can.”
Located in the heart of Newark, Saint John’s Soup Kitchen provides over 700 meals daily to those who come hungry and in need. Today, Saint John’s has served over 6,000,000 breakfasts and dinners, which has been made possible solely from the support of free-will donations. Saint John’s also offers a medical services unit that is staffed by a full-time nurse and two volunteer doctors. For more information visit www.NJSoupKitchen.org.
