SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Head Coach Sara Doell announced the 2013 Seton Hall women’s golf fall schedule on Monday. The Pirates will participate in six tournaments this fall. Seton Hall will open the fall season as they have for the last three years, at the Lady Bison Fall Classic, hosted by Bucknell University, Sept. 7-8. The Pirates have steadily improved over the years, finishing 10th in 2010, third in 2011 and tying for second, just one stroke off the lead, last fall. Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) led the Pirates at 20-over-par and finished eighth among all individual golfers. “It’s a great golf course, a large field and a wonderful opportunity for us to start our fall schedule on a strong note,” Doell said.” The following weekend, Seton Hall will take on the field at the Princeton Invitational at Spring Lake Golf Course. Two years ago, the Pirates finished seventh among the field of 12 teams. “Princeton, after taking a year off from hosting, is back on our schedule for the third time,” Doell said. “The golf course is a great test. We have a lot of length on this team and that helps us on Princeton’s course as there are at least three “reachable” par 5’s for the longer hitter.” Seton Hall will wrap up September with three rounds of golf at the competitive Yale Women’s Intercollegiate, Sept. 20-22. It’s another very familiar course for the Pirates as the team will be competing in the tournament for the fourth straight year. The Hall has improved mightily over the years, finishing 13th of 14 schools in 2010, eighth in 2011 and tying for fourth last fall. Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) led the Pirates last year, shooting 4-over-par and finishing eighth overall. Her second round 2-under-par, 70, is the lowest single-round in program history. “Last fall, we finished fourth which was, in my opinion, the best performance we had in the 2012-2013 year,” Doell said. “We shot 300 in the last round to jump from eighth place to a tie for fourth. I know that we’ll step into New Haven very confidently as we feed off of last year’s success.” Seton Hall will return to the course at which it’s had arguably its most success, the Rutgers University Golf Course, October 14-15. Competing in the event for a fourth straight year, the Pirates will look to defend their team title at last year’s Rutgers Women’s Invitational. A trio of Pirates, including Tenhundfeld and Kruse, tied for second among all individual golfers at 6-over-par. As a team, Seton Hall triumphed over 20 other teams and won the event by seven strokes. “It’ll be the first time that we’ll have the chance to defend a team title,” Doell said. “We won Siena’s event during the 2011-12 season, however, we didn’t have the chance to defend as they didn’t host the following year. I am excited to lead the team into this event with the chance for a repeat.” The following weekend, Seton Hall will participate in the Sacred Heart Fall Classic for the first time. The event will be held at the Great Rivere Golf Club in Milford, Conn., October 14-15. “With so many repeat tournaments on our schedule, I think it’s important to occasionally get the team out of its comfort zone and introduce a new course,” Doell said. “This event will be a nice opportunity for us to excel in unfamiliar territory.” Seton Hall will complete the fall season with the Lehigh University Invitational, another tournament at which the Pirates have enjoyed success. The Hall has finished second at this event in each of the last two years, including a one-stroke loss to Princeton last fall. Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) led the Pirates at 5-over-par and placed fifth among all golfers. “The team really loves to play in the Lehigh Invitational,” Doell said. “We have finished second in this event the last two years, and Hannah won the individual title in 2011. It’s a beautiful and challenging, but fair, golf course and I believe we’ll continue to be successful.”
