PREVIEW
Seton Hall will begin the second half of its BIG EAST schedule this weekend against Xavier and Butler at Walsh Gym. The Pirates will host Xavier on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Butler on Saturday, also at 7:00 p.m.
Sophomore Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) had a match-high 25 digs as the Pirates swept DePaul, 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-7) on Friday for its 12th straight victory. Senior Stacey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) recorded her team-leading 14th double-double of the season with a match-high 13 kills to go with 10 digs. Her sister, Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.), had a match-high 35 assists, seven kills and seven digs. The following night, Stacey Manthorpe recorded a career-high 26 kills, but it wasn't enough as the Pirates dropped a hard-fought match at Marquette, 3-1 (34-32, 20-25, 23-25, 33-35), to snap its 12-match win streak. Manthorpe bested her previous career-high by seven kills and also tallied 13 digs for her eighth straight double-double. She committed only three attack errors for a team-best .319 attack percentage. Fournier recorded a career-high 34 digs to go with six assists to lead the Pirates' defense. Shelbey Manthorpe also tallied a double-double with a team-high 49 assists to go with a season-high 23 digs and six kills.
Seton Hall played a mid-week non-conference match this week. Junior Amanda Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis.) tallied a match-high 13 kills as the Pirates rolled to a sweep at Stony Brook, 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-14), on Tuesday. Hansen tallied her 13 kills with just one attack error and had a team-best .667 attack percentage. Shelbey Manthorpe narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with a match-best 30 assists to go with nine digs. Three Pirates had at least seven blocks in a strong defensive effort. Ashani Rubin (Philadelphia, Pa.), the BIG EAST leader in blocks, led the team with eight. Both Hansen and sophomore Danielle Schroeder (Chicago, Ill.) had seven blocks apiece.
This Friday, Seton Hall will host Xavier at Walsh Gym in a match scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. A victory, and the Pirates will have a five-match lead on the fifth place spot with eight matches remaining. The top four teams in the final BIG EAST standings advance to the BIG EAST Tournament in Milwaukee. Seton Hall is just 1-2 all-time against the Musketeers, but their lone win came earlier this season in Cincinnati. On Oct. 4, the Pirates defeated Xavier in four sets as both Manthorpes recorded a double-double and Tessa Fournier had 28 digs and eight assists. On Saturday, The Hall will host Butler at Walsh Gym at 7:00 p.m. Seton Hall is also 1-2 all-time against Butler, but won in Indianapolis earlier this year. On Oct. 3, the Pirates pulled off a surprising sweep of the Bulldogs. Both Manthorpes again recorded double-doubles.
TOP SETON HALL NOTES
DOWN DEPAUL; FALL TO MARQUETTE
Seton Hall swept DePaul on Friday, but fell in four sets at Marquette on Saturday, snapping its 12-match win streak. The Pirates crushed the Blue Demons, holding them to just seven points in the third set. Their match with Marquette was a classic match with long volleys and high point totals.
HALFWAY POINT
Seton Hall has reached its halfway point of the BIG EAST season and lost just one of its nine matches. Seton Hall has already matched its highest BIG EAST win total in program history. A victory over Xavier on Friday would improve the Pirates to 9-1 and set a new record.
HONOR ROLL MEMBERS
Senior Stacey Manthorpe and sophomore Tessa Fournier were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Oct. 20. Manthorpe is named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time this season after recording double-doubles in both matches. On Saturday at Marquette, she bested her previous career-high by seven kills to finish with a match-high 26 to go with 13 digs and a .319 attack percentage. Fournier is named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season. She set a career-high with 34 digs to lead all players on Saturday at Marquette.
50 WINS
With Seton Hall's victory at DePaul on Oct. 17, head coach Allison Yaeger won her 50th career match. Yaeger is now 51-29 in three years with the Pirates.
EPIC CLASH
Seton Hall and Marquette played a memorable volleyball match in Milwaukee on Oct. 18. Despite the match only going four sets, the teams combined for 203 digs and 227 points. Marquette set the NCAA record for most points in a four-set match with 117. Seton Hall tallied 110.
