BRONX, N.Y. - Sophomore Victor Ricci (Narragansett, R.I.) closed an impressive final third of the 2014 season on Saturday in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, turning in his third-consecutive team-leading performance to pace the Seton Hall men's cross country team in its fall finale at the IC4A Championships.
As a team, The Hall placed 14th to close the season, one in which the squad registered five top-three efforts in nine appearances.
The Pirates' most frequent top performer as a freshman, Ricci returned to form in the latter portion of 2014 and capped off the late season surge with a team-best 5-mile time of 27:33.5 (64th). The sophomore also led the blue & white at the Asics Embry Riddle Classic and recorded a third-place team finish at the St. John's-Hofstra Fall Festival.
Classmate Sean Kip (Union, N.J.) was the next Pirate to cross the line, coming in at 28:06.1 to rank 87th overall. Kip added three scoring times to his collection this fall as the competition near the top of the lineup intensified due to the depth in the freshman and sophomore classes.
Seniors John Walsh (Deltaville, Va.) and Kevin Walsh (Deltaville, Va.) added one more notch to what was their most successful seasons as Pirates, finishing just over three seconds apart. Kevin Walsh took 89th place in 28:09.4 while John Walsh claimed 92nd in 28:12.9.
After battling injuries for the past two seasons, the Walsh brothers emerged to provide a stabilizing presence this fall, combining for 15 scoring times and four team-leading efforts in their final campaigns.
Sophomore Cameron Quisenberry (Owensboro, Ky.) earned the fifth-fastest time on the team for the second meet in-a-row, completing the course less than two seconds after John Walsh to claim 93rd place in 28:14.5.
Along with the Walsh brothers, senior Tyler Orner (Sinking Spring, Pa.) competed for The Hall in cross country for the final time, but Seton Hall will return to the track for select meets in the spring.
