NEW YORK - Redshirt junior forward Bra'Shey Ali (Plainfield, N.J.) is the latest player to be honored by the BIG EAST Conference as she landed on the Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll Monday it was announced by the league office.
Ali, who has established herself as a force for the Pirates in the paint and is one of the top rebounders in the nation, earned weekly accolades from the conference for the first time in her career.
Averaging a double-double with 12.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Pirates, Ali helped Seton Hall extend its current winning streak to 10 in a row, the longest in 20 years, with victories over Fairfield and NJIT last week.
In the 79-47 victory over Fairfield last Thursday night, Ali scored 11 points with eight rebounds, shooting 5-for-8 from the field, as the Pirates cruised to their largest margin of victory this season.
One night later, Ali dominated on the glass, pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with 13 points, for her team-leading fourth double-double of the season. She had six offensive boards in the win, a team-high for the 2014-15 season.
Ali is close to averaging a double-double with 10.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. She has led Seton Hall in rebounding nine times, with five double-digit efforts on the glass. Her 9.5 rebounds per game rank third in the BIG EAST and 59th in the nation, and she is 36th nationally with four double-doubles, which is tied for the most by one player in the BIG EAST.
For her career, Ali has 13 double-doubles and 22 double-digit rebounding efforts. A year ago, she ranked 17th nationally, averaging 11.0 rebounds per game, with a career-high 20 in SHU's win over American in the first round of the WNIT.
Seton Hall stands at 11-1 overall heading into its Christmas Break, and has won 10-straight games overall, and 13 in a row in Walsh Gymnasium dating back to last season.
The Pirates will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 28, when they will play their final non-conference game of the season and face their biggest test to date, as they welcome the unbeaten No. 15 Georgia Bulldogs to Walsh Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
