Daisha Simmons Named to Honor Roll

NEW YORK - Graduate guard Daisha Simmons (Jersey City, N.J.) was named to the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll Monday it was announced by the league office. She scored in double figures in all three games for The Hall last week, helping lead the Pirates to a 3-0 record, which included a pair of road victories.
This latest accolade for Simmons comes one week after she was tabbed as the conference's Player of the Week for the first time in her career. She has scored in double figures in eight-straight games, and now ranks second at Seton Hall and seventh in the BIG EAST, averaging 17.1 ppg.
Last week she averaged 18.7 ppg, along with 5.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.7 steals per contest. Her biggest performance came in Seton Hall's 79-74 victory at Creighton in its conference opener for a nationally televised game on Fox Sports 1, where she scored a game-high 23 points with eight assists, seven steals and six rebounds. Seton Hall led by as many as 17 points in the second half of that win, with Simmons scoring 17 of her points during the second period.
Two days later the Pirates played a second-straight road game, this time at Fordham, which entered the game ranked 15th in the nation in scoring defense. In that 56-43 win, Simmons finished with 14 points and converted all six of her free throw attempts.
Seton Hall returned home to host Lafayette on Sunday afternoon, playing its third game over the last five days, and Simmons led the Pirates in scoring once again, tallying 19 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. In addition to her impressive scoring numbers, Simmons ranks in the top-five in the BIG EAST in a handful of other categories, sitting fourth in assists per game (4.3) and fifth in steals per game (2.7).
Seton Hall will conclude its stretch of four games in seven days with a critical matchup against the University of Illinois on Tuesday night in Walsh Gym at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast by the BIG EAST Digital Network and will be available via Fox Sports Go and the Fox Sports Go mobile app.
