SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall men's basketball team recently completed its annual summer session as the Pirates began their preparations for the 2014-15 campaign. Returnees and newcomers spent over a month together on campus fine-tuning their skills on and off the court through a weekly routine that focused on academics, skill instruction and strength & conditioning.
Pirate Sports Network's latest men's basketball feature on SHUPirates.com features interviews with head coach Kevin Willard and student-athletes as they recap the 2014 summer session.
"I really thought this year the collective will of the team was evident," said head coach Kevin Willard. "There was a great belief in getting better. I was most proud of these guys that every day they brought it."
Willard and his staff had their first opportunity to work with the program's nationally ranked six-member freshmen class, while also evaluating progress of the returning Pirates as they continue to work toward the goals set forth at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season. Spirited group workout sessions along with the team's participation in community service initiatives helped strengthen team camaraderie.
"Summer workouts are really intense because the summer is when you get better. Coach Willard comes in and challenges us," said junior guard Sterling Gibbs. "This is where you really make your gains in the weight room, on the court, off the court and taking classes. The summer plays a big part in your development as a whole."
Season tickets for the upcoming campaign are currently on sale at SHUPirates.com and are available starting as low as $153.
