ELIZABETH, N.J. - The Seton Hall men's basketball team traveled to the Dunn Sports Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey on Sunday afternoon, attending the "Hoops for Wishes" DELV Cup Basketball Tournament in support of Make-A-Wish New Jersey.
The event, in its third year, featured an all-day basketball tournament between FedEx Ground employees where the Seton Hall contingent stopped to sign autographs and pose for photos with the children and families in attendance.
All proceeds from the tournament and associated memorabilia auction benefited the New Jersey chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
"Any time we can get out and interact with the community, we always have a blast," said senior forward Brandon Mobley. "Getting to speak with the kids and the families is always my favorite part of days like this. The fact that we can help support a great cause like Make-A-Wish that does so much to help kids experience things they might not otherwise have the chance to; that is just icing on the cake."
"Participating in events like this one is an important aspect of our program," said assistant coach Fred Hill who helped coordinate the effort. "Our guys know how much our fans and the people in our community support us and really help drive our program so they are always eager when they get the chance to give back a little."
About Make-A-Wish®
Make-A-Wish® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. A wish gives a child the chance to forget treatments and hospital stays as they plan their own unique wish, anticipate it, experience it to the fullest and then relive it through happy memories that will sustain them and their families through the days ahead.
Last year, Make-A-Wish® granted 405 wishes for seriously ill children in the state of New Jersey. Each wish was as unique as the child and limited only by his or her imagination. Although many of these wishes were Disney related- either to visit Disney World or Disneyland or to set sail aboard a Disney Cruise, Make-A-Wish® also helped children attain their dreams of having a puppy, meeting their favorite sports hero, traveling to a foreign country and so much more.
