QUEENS, N.Y. - Freshman Kiley Britten (Crystal Lake, Ill.) delivered the first team-leading time of her young career on Sunday, pacing the Seton Hall women's cross country team with a fourth-place finish at the St. John's Fall Cross Country Festival.
Britten has been a welcome addition to what has been a steady scoring group for The Hall, ranking among the top-two on the team in each race. Britten's time of 16:29.40 just edged out that of teammate Desyre Blackburn (Aloha, Ore.) as the two came to the line stride-for-stride. Blackburn - who led the squad at the Metropolitan Championships - clocked in just tenths of a second later at 16:30.00.
Senior Amanda Quaglia (Reading, Pa.) made it three Pirate finishers within 15 seconds; registering a 16:42.40 mark that was good enough for seventh-place overall. Quaglia now owns five scoring times including three first-place team finishes on the season.
Sophomore Emily Johnson (Wildwood Crest, N.J.) finished less than two seconds outside of the top-10, competing to the finish with STJ's Michelle Van Pelt and Marlow Schulz. Johnson completed the course in 17:24.30 to claim 12th-place.
Senior Bri Miller (Bayonne, N.J.) rounded out the scoring group with a 16th-place time of 18:11.40 - registering her first top-five team finish of the season after consistently finishing among the top-seven on the squad over the first four meets.
The Pirates finished with 39 team points while the Red Storm took first with a cumulative score of 20.
The meet against St. John's served as the final tune-up prior to the BIG EAST Championship as The Hall will head to Mason, Ohio to compete against the best in the conference on Saturday, October 31.
