
Jones Powers Pirates Past Philadelphia In Exhibition Victory

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Tiffany Jones (New York, N.Y.) led all players with 16 points to pace the Seton Hall women's basketball team to a 71-47 victory over Philadelphia in an exhibition contest on Saturday afternoon at Walsh Gymnasium. The Pirates held the Rams to 28.1 percent shooting from the floor in the victory, including a 22.2 percent mark in the second half.
Jones also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for The Hall, which led by as many as 25 in the third quarter and never trailed in the contest. Tabatha Richardson-Smith (Bay City, Texas) added 14 for The Hall, while Aleesha Powell (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Shakena Richardson (Neptune, N.J.) had identical nine-point, five-assist, four-rebound lines.
The Pirates led by seven after a quarter, and opened up a 42-29 lead at the break. The defense ratcheted up in the second half, stifling Philadelphia to only nine points in both the third and fourth quarters. Thirteen total players saw action for Seton Hall and 11 recorded at least one point.
The Pirates shot 42.2 percent from the floor and won the rebound battle by a 44-35 margin. Rachel Day led Philadelphia with 12 points and Tori Arnao paced the Rams with 13 rebounds. The contest marked the third-straight season The Hall and Philadelphia have squared off in an exhibition contest, with the Pirates going to 3-0 in the series.

Turning Point
After the Rams pulled within four at the 4:28 mark of the second quarter, The Hall ripped off a 13-0 run in a shade under four minutes to take a 40-23 lead. Jordan Mosley (Orlando, Fla.) scored six points off the bench during the run and Richardson-Smith added four.
