ITHACA, N.Y. - Junior Gabby Signorelli (Massapequa, N.Y.) reaffirmed her place as the top female competitor in the league from the diving board on the final day of the 2015 BIG EAST Championships; completing her second consecutive sweep of the conference titles with another one-meter gold medal to help the Seton Hall women to a fourth-place finish as a team.
Signorelli out-performed four other entrants from the one meter board, registering a score of 536.15 that was nearly 55 points clear of runner-up Lauren Kahn of Georgetown. The effort followed a victorious turn from the three-meter board on Thursday and at the conclusion of the meet, the Massapequa native received her second-straight BIG EAST Most Outstanding Female Diver award.
The only female diver ever to win a conference title for The Hall, Signorelli's double gold performance this week makes her the third four-time BIG EAST champion in school history, joining teammate Ben Mitchell (Milford, Pa.), who was similarly dominant in men's diving competition, and SHU Athletics Hall of Famer Jen Heider.
The season is not complete for the junior however as she will represent the Pirates at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in March. First-year coach Pete DeNoble was named Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year after SHU recorded four titles and six top-three finishes in four events.
Swimmers on the women's side added six more individual top-eight efforts on the final day of competition; highlighted by a bronze medal-winning time from freshman Sydney Simpson (Tallahassee, Fla.) in the 200-breast. Simpson reached the wall in 2:23.15 in the night session, leading a group of three Pirates in the A final.
Junior Megan Mallon (Glen Mills, Pa.) followed Simpson to the wall, clocking in just under a second later while freshman Courtney Regan (Southbury, Conn.) moved up one spot from her preliminary seed to take seventh.
Senior Megan Mostoller (Cheshire, Conn.) chipped in 14th-place points with a 2:30.31 mark in the B final.
In the 200-fly, sophomore Tessa Lindner (Sun Prairie, Wisc.) also picked up a bronze medal, finishing in 2:03.21 in the championship race. Classmate Cece Henry (St. Charles, Mo.) garnered a spot among the top-10 overall by posting a 2:07.99 mark in the B final, placing three spots ahead of senior Jane Ehret (Florida, N.Y.).
Freshman Kylene Ronayne (Springfield, Pa.) swam her way into the 200-back A final and ultimately registered a team-best eighth-place finish (2:06.69). Junior Cora Meehan (Noblesville, Ind.) picked up 12th-place points, touching in two positions ahead of teammate Alexa Santis (Ijamsville, Md.).
Sophomore Erica Naumann (Middletown, Conn.) completed the 1,650-free in 17:30.82 to rank eighth overall while Katie Adams (Linwood, N.J.) also cracked the top-15.
The Hall was led by a 53.54 showing by newcomer Kat Carson (Katy, Texas) in the 100-free as the freshman claimed 14th-place -.17 seconds in front of Gabi Levine (Garwood, N.J.) in 15th.
Carson and Levine were also one-half of a 400-free relay squad that included Ronayne and Lindner and combined to close the four-day competition with a fourth-place time of 3:32.08.
Seton Hall placed fourth as a squad for the second year in-a-row, finishing with 472 points. Villanova (957.5) captured the team championship on the women's side.
