CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. -- Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) and Ryan Snouffer (Sparta, N.J) each shot under-par in Monday's second round as the Seton Hall men's golf team climbed three spots to a fourth place standing with 18 holes remaining at the 2015 BIG EAST Championship at Callawassie Island Golf Club.
Go improved 10 strokes from his round one score to shoot a 2-under-par, 70, on Monday. The sophomore birdied three of the first five holes and recorded five birdies total on the day. For the tournament, Go is 6-over-par with an 80-70-150. He went from a distant 30th place following round one to a 12th place tie and back in contention for the individual title.
Like Go, Snouffer was equally brilliant on both the front and back nines on Monday. He too totaled five birdies during the round, and birdied holes #17 and #18 to finish his afternoon strong. Snouffer fired a 1-under-par, 71, and is now in 11th place with a 4-over-par, 77-71-148.
Collectively, Seton Hall improved 12 strokes from its first round performance, shooting an 8-over-par, 296, in round two. The Pirates' 296 was better than any of the teams' scores in round one and the third-best score in round two. Through 36 holes, Seton Hall is 28-over-par with a 308-296-604, and trails the team leader, DePaul, by 11 strokes entering Tuesday's final round.
Senior JT Harper (Pebble Beach, Calif.) followed up his team-best performance in round one with another strong effort on Monday. Harper used an even-par back nine to shoot a 2-over-par, 74. He remains Seton Hall's top golfer through 36 holes at only 2-over-par with a 72-74-146. Harper is tied for fourth place overall and trails co-leaders St. John's Dylan Crowley and Xavier's Jose Montano, by four strokes with 18 holes remaining.
Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.) improved 10 strokes from his first round score. The junior was only 3-over-par on the back nine today and finished with a 9-over-par, 81. For the tournament he is 28-over-par with a 91-81-172.
Similar to that of Wilson on Sunday, Kevin O'Brien (Wexford, Pa.) had one nightmarish hole that damaged his round. The sophomore carded an 11 on the par-4 fourth hole. O'Brien finished the round with a 16-over-par, 88. For the tournament, he is 23-over-par with a 79-88-167.
One round of action will take place on each day of the tournament beginning at 8 a.m. ET. All rounds of the Championship, which will be played on the Dogwood and Magnolia Courses, are free and open to the public.
The winning team of the three-day event will earn the BIG EAST's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. Should the individual winner not be a member of that team, he will also earn a spot in the NCAA field.
The club features three nine-hole courses. Most of the competition will play out on the Dogwood Course on Sunday and Monday. For Tuesday's final round, the first 10 threesomes will tee off on Dogwood and the final five will play the Magnolia Course. Five student-athletes will play for each of the nine teams, with the top four scores counting towards the team cumulative.
The BIG EAST Digital Network will provide coverage of the final round on www.bigeast.com. Complete results following each day's competition will be found at SHUpirates.com and golfstat.com.
