SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Head Coach Sara Doell announced the 2015 Seton Hall women's golf fall schedule on Tuesday. The Pirates will participate in five tournaments this fall.
"I am very pleased with how our fall schedule has shaped up," Doell said. "We play on some great courses against very competitive fields. I believe that this schedule will help us start the 2015-16 year on a strong note as we begin our quest to win a third straight BIG EAST Championship."
For the first time in the five-year history of the program, Seton Hall will not open its fall season at the Bucknell Invitational. The Pirates will begin competition this fall at the William & Mary Invitational at Kingsmill Country Club in Williamsburg, Va., Sept. 13-15. The Pirates played in the event for the first time in 2014 and finished in third among the field of 13 teams.
"We competed in William and Mary's event for the first time last fall and the team loved it," Doell said. "It is hosted at Kingsmill Country Club, which is also a stop for the LPGA tour, and the course is a challenging, yet fair test of golf. The field is strong and it is a great event to start our fall competitive season on."
The following weekend, the Pirates will attempt to defend their title at the Bucknell Invitational, Sept. 19-20. It will be the sixth straight season playing in this event at the Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa. Last season, Seton Hall bested a field of 14 teams by six strokes for the fifth team tournament victory in program history. Four individuals finished among the individual top-10, led by Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.), who used a career-best 71 in the final round to tie for fourth overall.
"It's always great to have the chance to defend your title, and that is exactly why we are going back to Bucknell this year," Doell said. "Defending our title will be good practice for the type of situation we will face going into the BIG EAST Championship in the Spring. I look forward to seeing how they go into Bucknell in an effort to repeat."
Seton Hall will compete in the Princeton Invitational for the fifth time in six seasons, Oct. 3-4. The annual event will be held at Springdale Golf Club in Princeton, N.J. The Hall had its best showing in the event last year with a fifth place finish among 12 teams.
The next week, the Pirates will take on the Yale Women's Intercollegiate, Oct. 9-11, at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn. It will be the sixth time Seton Hall has played in this event, making it the most-frequented tournament for the Pirates that they have yet to win. The Hall has placed fourth in the large, talented field in each of the last three years.
"The team loves our trip to Yale each year as it is a fun and interesting golf course," Doell said. "Similar to Princeton, the par 5's are reachable, the par 3's are long, and there are several challenging par 4's. In the past, we have played some of our best golf at Yale and I look forward to continuing on that successful path."
Finally, Seton Hall will complete the 2015 fall season with a new tournament, the University of Delaware Lady Blue Hen Invitational, Oct. 24-25. Only in its third year, the tournament will be played at picturesque Rehoboth Beach Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
