SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's volleyball team rallied from a five-point fifth set deficit to outlast Hofstra, 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 16-25, 15-13), in its second match of the 2015 Seton Hall Classic on Saturday.
Fresh off an emotional sweep of Notre Dame on Friday night, the program's first-ever win over the Fighting Irish, Seton Hall took a 2-1 match lead against Hofstra. The Pride however, responded with a convincing 25-16 victory in set four to knot the match and send it to a decisive fifth set.
Turning Point:
Seton Hall (3-2) trailed 9-4 shortly after the teams switched sides in set five, but reeled off six straight points to take a 10-9 advantage, its first lead since the third set. From there, the set was tied four more times before an ace by Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) put the Pirates in match point, 14-13, and ensuing blocks by Grace Forren (La Jolla, Calif.) and Amanda Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis.) sealed the Seton Hall victory.
Inside the Numbers:
- Forren notched her second straight double-double of the season with a career-high 15 kills to go with 10 digs.
- Freshman Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) tallied 45 assists and nine digs.
- Freshman Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.) had 13 kills. It's the fourth straight match that she's reached double-figures.
- Fournier tallied a match-high 23 digs.
Next Up:
The Pirates will conclude play at their own Seton Hall Classic this evening. The Hall will face Temple at 7:30 p.m.
