
Pirates Fall To Marquette In Milwaukee

MILWAUKEEE, WIS. - The Seton Hall women's basketball team dropped an 89-82 decision at Marquette on Sunday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center. The loss evened the season series between the Pirates (17-5, 7-4 BIG EAST) and the Golden Eagles (11-11, 6-5 BIG EAST) and marked a 1-1 conclusion to a weekend road swing for The Hall.
Tabatha Richardson-Smith (Bay City, Texas) led the Pirates with 28 points and grabbed ninr rebounds, while Shakena Richardson (Neptune, N.J.) added 15 and eight assists. Marquette saw five players hit double-digits in the win, led by 21 points and 10 boards from Allazia Blockton and a 16-point, 14-rebound double-double from Erika Davenport. Aleesha Powell (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the third Pirate in double-figures with 16 points.
Marquette led by a point after the first quarter, and took a double-digit lead to the break after a late run in the second quarter. The Golden Eagles saw their advantage balloon as high 20 in the third quarter, until a Seton Hall charge cut the lead to five early in the fourth. The Golden Eagles were able to answer, getting the lead back to 14 late in the fourth and holding on for the win.
Turning Point
The Pirates used a surge early in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to five at 71-66, before Marquette answered with a 6-0 run to push the lead back to double-digits and force a Pirate timeout around the five-minute mark of the final stanza. Overall the run stretched to 9-0 and the Pirates were unable to get closer than seven the rest of the way.

- Marquette shot 33-of-65 (50.8 percent) from the floor, becoming the first opponent to shoot over 50 percent and score over 85 points against the Pirates this season
- MU held a 45-38 rebounding advantage, while the Pirates out-scored the Golden Eagles 42-40 in the paint
- The Golden Eagle bench out-scored the Pirate reserves 21-13
- The Hall held a 12-6 edge in steals and had three blocks compared to zero for MU
