Bronx, N.Y. - The doubles tandems of junior Luize Strike (Riga, Lativa) and Anna Fajnorova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Michal Matson (St. Albans, New Zealand) and Anniek Jansen (Naarden, Netherlands) played strong matches in the Seton Hall women's tennis team's match at Fordham on Saturday. Both pairings won their matches to deliver the Pirates the doubles point in a 6-1 setback to the Rams.
Strike and Fajnorova were paired in No. 1 doubles and came away with an 8-5 victory over Estelle Wong and Mayu Sato. Matson and Jansen proved to be the difference in doubles at No. 3, winning 8-6 over Carina Ma and Alexis Zobeideh after Fordham had captured No. 2 doubles over Seton Hall's junior Katie Kim (Honolulu, Hawaii) and sophomore Thandy Kangwa (Fort Myers, Fla.).
The Pirates were unable to overcome Fordham's firepower in singles, losing all six matches. However, many of the sets were competitive and could have easily gone the other way. At No. 5 singles, Kim won the first set over Gianna Insogna, 6-2, but unfortunately was not able to secure victory.
The Pirates will wrap up the fall portion of their competition schedule at the ITA Regional Championship this upcoming weekend in New Haven, Conn.
