Kauth Named BIG EAST Swimmer of the Week

NEW YORK - Freshman Tyler Kauth (Wall, N.J.) has had an outstanding start to his collegiate career, and he earned his first conference honor on Tuesday when the BIG EAST named him Swimmer of the Week. He and the Pirates are coming off a weekend in which they defeated three-time defending BIG EAST champion Xavier, 231-118.
Kauth won the 200 backstroke at the Big 12 vs. BIG EAST meet last weekend (vs. West Virginia and Xavier), hosted by West Virginia, with a time of 1:52.03. He then finished second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.87, which was less than a second off the winning time of 50.90. In both backstroke events, he finished higher than anyone on Xavier. And he was fifth in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.06. In relays, he was on the third-place finishing 200 free relay that came in at 1:25.68.
His performance came on the heels of his collegiate debut on Oct. 9 vs. Saint Peter's and Montclair State. In that meet he won the 100 and 200 backstroke events and helped win the 200 medley relay.
Kauth and the Pirates are 3-1 to start the 2016-17 season and will swim against Monmouth on Tuesday, Oct. 25 in West Long Branch, N.J., at 5 p.m. The team's next home meet is Saturday, Oct. 29 vs. Providence, and that meet will be streamed live online through the Pirate Sports Network.
