Pantelas Shoots Even-Par in First Round at Yale
10/7/2016 10:28:00 PM | Women's Golf
NEW HAVEN, CONN. – Junior Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) fired an even-par, 71, and has led the Seton Hall women's golf team to an 11th place tie after round one of the 2016 Yale Women's Intercollegiate.
Â
Pantelas was 3-over-par entering the final three holes, but finished birdie-eagle-par to enter the clubhouse as the lone Pirate under par. It is the sixth time in her career that she's shot even-par or better. Currently, Pantelas is tied for ninth place, just two strokes off the individual lead entering Saturday's second round.Â
Â
Collectively, the Pirates fired a solid 17-over-par, 301, on Friday and trail the team leaders, Dartmouth, by 11 strokes. Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, Xavier, is 42-over-par after round one.
Â
Due to slow play, one group didn't finish the first round, therefore four teams have incomplete first round scores. That group will finish its round before the 10:30 a.m. second round shotgun.
Â
Freshman Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) continued her strong start to her collegiate career with a 4-over-par, 75. She is currently tied for 30th place among 103 individual golfers. Four of Sager's first seven collegiate rounds have been a 75 or lower.
Â
Freshman Sammie Staudt (Collegeville, Pa.) used a strong front nine to finish with a 6-over-par, 77. Classmate Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) was only one stroke behind Staudt, registering a 7-over-par, 78, in round one.
Â
Junior Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.) rounded out the Pirates' team scoring on Friday with a 12-over-par, 83. Competing as an individual at Yale, Jamie Greene (Troy, Mich.) also fired a 12-over-par, 83.
