Sager Leads Pirates to 13th at Rain-Shortened Yale

NEW HAVEN, CONN. – Freshman Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) fired a career-best 1-under-par, 70, in the second round of the 2016 Yale Women's Intercollegiate and the Seton Hall women's golf team finsihed in 13th place as the third round was cancelled due to rain.

Sager was spectacular on Saturday, using three birdies to shoot her first career sub-par round. The Pirate newcomer had a sparkling back nine holes with two birdies and seven pars. Through 36 holes, Sager is tied for 13th among 103 individual golfers with a 3-over-par, 75-70-145.

Collectively, the Pirates shaved three strokes off their first round score, finishing with a 14-over-par, 298. The Hall finished the tournament at 31-over-par with a 301-298-599. Columbia won the team title at 13-over-par. Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, Xavier, finished in 16th place, 21 strokes behind the Pirates.

Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) logged her second straight solid round, shooting a 4-over-par, 75, in round two. The junior captain tied for 17th at 4-over-par with a 71-75-146.

Junior Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.) shaved seven strokes off her first round score to post a respectable 5-over-par, 76, on Saturday. Fouse finished at 17-over-par with an 83-76-159.
The always consistent Sammie Staudt (Collegeville, Pa.) tallied her second straight 6-over-par, 77. She logged a 12-over-par with a 77-77-154.

Rounding out the Pirates' lineup, Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) posted an 8-over-par, 79, on Saturday. The freshman shot a 15-over-par with a 78-79-157 for the two-round event.

Participating as an individual, sophomore Jamie Greene (Troy, Mich.) shot a 15-over-par, 86, in the second round. For the tournament, she was 27-over-par with an 83-86-169.

In addition to Seton Hall and host Yale, the field was comprised of 16 other teams including: Boston College, Boston University, Brown, Cincinnati, Columbia, Dartmouth, Fairleigh Dickinson, Harvard, Penn, Princeton, Southern Alabama, South Florida, Stirling, Towson and Tulsa. Xavier is the lone other BIG EAST competition in the field.
