Pirates Fall in Four Sets at Marquette
11/12/2016 7:17:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
MILWAUKEE, WIS. – Junior Dominique Mason (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a team-high 12 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell in four sets at Marquette, 3-1 (13-25, 19-25, 25-17, 22-25), on Saturday.
A block by Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Danielle Schroeder (Chicago, Ill.) gave The Hall a 4-3 lead in set one, but it was short-lived. Marquette went on a 9-2 run to take a 12-6 advantage, and never looked back. From there, the Golden Eagle lead methodically grew until they won set one in convincing fashion, 25-13. The Pirates never led in set two as Marquette scored six of the first eight points in route to a 25-19 win to take a 2-0 match lead.
Seton Hall (14-15, 8-8) bounced back however, with a set three victory. With the Pirates clinging to an early 4-3 lead, they scored seven of the next nine points to jump ahead, 11-5. The Hall led by as many as 11 points before Marquette made a late run, but back-to-back kills by Schroeder ended the set in the Pirates' favor, 25-17.
Turning Point:
Set four was the closest of the match. The Pirates successfully attacked at a .324 clip, but the Golden Eagles were even more impressive at .414. Leading 4-3, the Pirates scored six of the next eight points to take a 10-5 advantage. Ahead 14-9, Marquette scored six straight points to take the lead, 15-14. A kill by Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) gave The Hall a 20-18 advantage, but the Golden Eagles scored seven of the final nine points to win set four, 25-22.
