NEW YORK - Junior guard Khadeen Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) lit up his opponents this past weekend with his hot hand shooting, and the effort landed him on the BIG EAST Men's Basketball Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday.
Carrington averaged 22.5 points in a pair of Pirates victories -- 91-70 over Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday and 82-58 over Central Connecticut on Sunday -- and made nine of his 10 three-point field goal attempts (90 percent!). Overall, he shot 15-for-22 from the field, good for 68.2 percent.Â
In the FDU game, he tied his career-high in points with 27. Then vs. CCSU, he scored a game-high 18 points and dished out four assists.
With his monster weekend, Carrington leapt four former Pirates in the all-time scoring list, going from 72nd to a tie for 67th. He now has 797 career points, which matches Paul Gause (2005-09). This season, Carrington will be making a bid to become the 41st Pirate to ever score 1,000 career points.
Carrington and the Pirates will participate in the 2016 Gavitt Tip-Off Games on Thursday, facing Iowa of the Big Ten in Iowa City at 9 p.m., Eastern. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network, and Gary Cohen and Dave Popkin will have the radio call on AM970 The Answer and the Pirate Sports Network, available online and through the SHU Pirates app.
