Hilaire Named Freshman of the Week, Gordon Honored

NEW YORK – Seton Hall women's basketball rookie Kaela Hilaire (Floral Park, N.Y.) has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday (Nov. 28). It is the second-straight weekly honor for Hilaire and the first Rookie of the Week for the Pirates since the 2013-14 season. In addition, Lubirdia Gordon (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) grabbed a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Hilaire averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game over The Hall's runner-up performance at the 2016 SHU Thanksgiving Classic, leading the Pirates in scoring in both games. After a career-high 24-point outburst in a semifinal victory over Central Connecticut State on Nov. 26, she finished with team-highs of 15 points and five assists in the championship game against UT-Arlington on Nov. 27.
After earning a spot on the weekly honor roll last week, Hilaire follows with the first individual honor for a Pirate this season. The rookie currently ranks second on The Hall and top-15 in the BIG EAST with 14.3 points per game while checking in at second in the conference in both assists (5.0) and steals (3.5).
For Gordon, the weekly honor is the first of the senior center's career as she becomes the third Pirate to earn a BIG EAST nod this season. In her only game action of the week on Saturday, Gordon finished with career-highs of 13 points and 15 rebounds along with a steal in a win over CCSU. In three contests this season she is averaging 9.7 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.
The Pirates return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 30 to take on Princeton in a road contest at Jadwin Gymnasium.
