Cale is a consensus four-star, top 100 recruit in this year's class: ESPN.com ranks him No. 63 overall, No. 2 in the state of Delaware and No. 17 among the nations shooting guards; 247Sports ranks him No. 73 overall, No. 1 in the state and No. 16 among shooting guards; and Rivals.com ranks him No. 65 overall.
"We are very excited to welcome Myles and his family into the Seton Hall basketball family," Willard said. "Myles is a very gifted athlete who knows how to score the basketball, and the sky is the limit for him. He will have an opportunity to come to Seton Hall, get stronger in the weight room, receive individual instruction from our coaching staff, develop on the defensive end and become a star in the BIG EAST Conference."
Cale currently attends Appoquinimink High School in his hometown, where he was a first-team All-State and first-team All-Conference performer for the Jaguars in 2016, averaging 26.4 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 3.4 steals. He scored 20 or more points in 13 of 19 games, including a whopping 34 points against Caravel Academy in the first round of the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) Tournament. In his three seasons with Appoquinimink, he has scored over 1,000 points and is a three-time All-Conference selection and two-time All-State pick.
"Seton Hall is getting an aggressive, well balanced scorer in Myles Cale," said Evan Daniels, Director of Basketball Recruiting at Scout.com and a College Basketball Insider for FOX Sports. "He's a solid athlete with good length. He's a capable shot maker from distance, but also comfortable pulling up from mid-range or slicing his way to the basket. This was a significant pick up for Kevin Willard and the Pirates."
Cale also has impressed on the Under Armour Association circuit with the South Jersey Jazz. This past spring, he put up big numbers, averaging 20.3 points and 3.8 rebounds and scoring 20-plus points in eight of 12 games, including 29 on 9-of-16 shooting on May 28, 2016.
"Myles Cale is a tough guard who uses his size and basketball IQ to create scoring opportunities for himself," said Kenny Blakeney, National Talent Evaluator for Grassroots and College for Under Armour Basketball. "He is a natural scorer who can get baskets from all over, including catch and shoot three-point shots, use of ball screens, mid-range pull-ups off the dribble and in transition. He is a sneaky athlete with good leaping ability and speed/quickness which gives him the ability to finish around the rim with both hands. Seton Hall has picked up a great young man who will be an All-BIG EAST team selection in the future."
ESPN's scouting report of Cale includes:
"Cale is a big scoring guard who knows how to put points on the board. He's evolved quite a bit physically in recent years, continuing to get stronger and more explosive while utilizing those attributes in his offensive attack. He gets out in transition very well, but has also been well coached in terms of playing within offensive structure. He's athletic both in the mid-range area as well as around the rim, where he has terrific body control, and also has an outstanding left hand for a righty. He has a generally high basketball IQ and all the weapons to be an impactful defender at the next level."
When Cale arrives at Seton Hall for the 2017-18 season, he will be a part of a loaded roster that will feature six seniors, four with tremendous starting experience, four juniors and three sophomores. Willard continues to shine in recruiting as he has not only been able to land four and five-star recruits, but has been able to keep some of the best Metro New York/New Jersey talent close to home (Isaiah Whitehead, Khadeen Carrington, Desi Rodriguez, Ismael Sanogo, Myles Powell).
