EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - The 2016 BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships will continue from the Nassau Aquatic Center on Thursday with four titlists scheduled to be crowned in the pool and men's diving action set to get underway from the three-meter board.
Preliminary and championship action can be seen live and for free on the BIG EAST Digital Network through the FOX Sports GO app throughout the day with prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m. and finals slated for 6:00 p.m.
Both the Seton Hall men and women currently sit in third place after a day one showing that saw senior diver Gabby Signorelli (Massapequa, N.Y.) etch her name in the record books with a fifth individual BIG EAST title, capturing gold for from the one-meter board for the third-straight year.
Another record fell on the women's side as well as Melody Bush (Guelph, Ontario), Megan Mallon (Glen Mills, Pa.), Tessa Lindner (Sun Prairie, Wis.), and Courtney McCardle (Hurley, N.Y.) teamed to set a new Seton Hall standard in the 200-medley relay. The effort for the SHU men was highlighted by a 200-medley squad featuring Lior Grubert (Yehud, Monosson, Israel), Zohar Suslovich (Holon, Israel), David Rowe (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Dakota Williams (Noank, Conn.) placed second.
With two relays in the books from opening day, the day two program calls for four swimming events in the 500-free, 200-IM, 50-free and 200-free relay while the men's diving competition will kick-off from the three-meter board.
In women's competition, three Pirates in Lindner (ninth, 200-IM), Kylene Ronayne (Springfield, Pa.) (10th, 500-free) and McCardle (13th, 50-free) will enter the day seeded amonfg the top-15 entrants in their respective events.
Lindner, McCardle and Ronayne also swam alongside Kat Carson (Katy, Texas) as part of the Pirates' top 200-free relay team of the season, clocking a time of 1:36.57 that is just over four-tenths of a second off the school record pace and ranks fourth in the league heading into the championship.
The Seton Hall men will look to begin their charge up the leaderboard as individual swimming competition begins with the 200-IM setting up to be a potentially special race for The Hall.
The four-time BIG EAST performer of the Week Grubert enters the event as the top seed with teammate Noah Yanchulis (Arnold, Md.) ranking second. Suslovich is seeded seventh while Kyle Nash (Katy, Texas) is ranked ninth to give Seton Hall four of the top-10 performers heading into the day.
Yanchulis (ninth), Ivan Michalovic (Glen Mills, Pa.) (13th) and Cody Wimmer (Macungie, Pa.) all stand among the top-15 scheduled entrants in the 500-free while Williams is seeded fourth in the 50-free, breaking up a top-eight that is otherwise completely occupied by Xavier Musketeers.
Just as the 200-medley race did on Wednesday night, the men's 200-free relay may come down to a showdown between the X-men and the Pirates as the two top-seeded squads are separated by slightly more than a second.
From the diving board, four-time BIG EAST medalist and all-conference performer Eric Davidson (Overland Park, Kan.) will begin his quest for gold, looking to become just the third Seton Hall diver ever to reach the top of the podium.
Competition will resume from the Nassau Aquatic Center on Thursday, February 25 with preliminary heats beginning at 10:00 a.m. and championship events scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. The entire championship meet can be seen live and for free on the BIG EAST Digital Network through the FOX Sports GO app.
