8/26/2016 9:14:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
Dani Schroeder collects a match-high 13 kills, but Seton Hall falls in its opener, 3-0, to Notre Dame.
NOTRE DAME, IND. – Senior Danielle Schroeder (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a match-high 13 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team lost its season-opener at Notre Dame, 3-0 (23-25, 20-25, 19-25), in its first match of the Golden Dome Invitational on Friday.
Â
The teams played a tight first set which featured 11 ties and neither team grabbing a lead of more than four points. Trailing 12-8, Seton Hall scored five straight points, and a kill by Schroeder gave the Pirates their first lead of the match. However, with the Pirates leading 20-19, Notre Dame scored three straight, and never trailed again, edging The Hall, 25-23.
Â
Seton Hall never led in set two, but kept the score close throughout. Leading 16-14, Notre Dame scored four of the next five points to take a commanding 20-15 advantage and force the Pirates' second timeout. The Fighting Irish went on to win set two, 25-20.
Â
The third set was the Pirates' best offensive set of the match, with the team registering a .229 attack percentage, but Notre Dame also had their best offensive performance in set three. The Fighting Irish connected on a .314 clip, and Notre Dame completed the sweep with a 25-19 set three win.
