Seton Hall shoots a record-low 15-under-par, 265, in the second round to tie for the lead.

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Four Pirates shot under par in a record-breaking second round on Saturday and the Seton Hall men's golf team is currently tied for first place after two rounds at "The Doc Gimmler" at Bethpage Red.

Seton Hall followed a strong 1-over-par first round performance with the greatest single round in program history in round two. The Pirates shot a 15-under-par, 265, and rocketed up the team leader board to a first place tie with Rhode Island. For the two rounds, Seton Hall is 14-over-par with a 281-265-546.

The 265 obliterates the Pirates' previous record low for a single-round par-70 score, which was an even-par, 280, scored on this course in round two of the 2013 "Doc Gimmler." The round is also the most strokes under par for any par course, besting Seton Hall's 9-under-par in the first round of the Loyola Invitational, a par-72 tournament, set last spring.

Leading the Pirates' charge is defending BIG EAST champion Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines), who is currently the individual leader in the clubhouse with a 10-under-par, 66-64-130. He has a four-stroke lead over a trio of competitors with 18 holes remaining.

At 10-under-par, Go is three strokes away from the Seton Hall record for the most strokes under par for a tournament, a 13-under par performance by Kyle Morris in the 2007 Treasure Coast Classic.

Go however, wasn't the only Pirate to put forth stellar performances on Saturday. Sophomore Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines) is currently tied for seventh overall with a 3-under-par, 70-76-137. Nagai is seeking the first under-par tournament finish of his young career.

Sophomore Chris Yeom (Flushing, N.Y.) and junior Linus Yip (Sydney, Austraila), making his Seton Hall debut, are both tied for 15^th overall at even-par. Yeom posted the Pirates' second-best individual round of the day, a career-best 4-under-par, 66, in round two. He has a 74-66-140 through two rounds. Yip has been consistent with a 72-68-140.

Rounding out the team scoring, senior Kevin O'Brien (Wexford, Pa.) is 6-over-par with a 73-73-146.

Participating as an individual, freshman Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) has a 4-over-par, 72-72-144, so far in his first collegiate tournament.

The Course:
In the early 1930s, the Bethpage Park Authority purchased the Lenox Hills Country Club and other adjacent properties to build what we now know as Bethpage State Park. Famed golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast was hired to design and oversee construction of three new golf courses (Black, Red and Blue) as well as modify the Lenox Hills Course which became the Green Course. Due to the increased demand for golf, the Yellow Course designed by Alfred Tull was opened in 1958. Approximately 300,000 rounds are played annually on the five courses at Bethpage, all of which start from the Clubhouse area.

The 18-hole Red course features long par-4's measuring 7,014 yards from the championship tees. With a par of 70, slope of 127, and rating of 72.2, it is the second-most difficult course at the Bethpage facility. The course features three sets of tees, so it is both accessible to the average golfer, and a challenge to those with low handicaps. The first hole is an uphill par-4 that is 460 yards, a challenge to even experienced players. While it may not have the fame of the Black course, it is a challenging course and regularly plays host to tournaments, including the LI Open and the Met Junior PGA.

The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host St. John's, the field is comprised of 11 other teams including: Colgate, Connecticut, Hartford, Harvard, Hofstra, Iona, Johnson & Wales (Fla.), Rhode Island, Saint Peter's, Villanova and Yale.

Tee Times:
The field will play two rounds (36 holes) on Saturday and a single final round on Sunday. Seton Hall will tee off beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday and will be paired with golfers from Rhode Island and Yale.
