9/11/2016 5:53:00 PM | Men's Golf
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Sophomore Chris Yeom (Flushing, N.Y.) shot a 2-under-par, 68, in Sunday's final round as the Seton Hall men's golf team finished second at "The Doc Gimmler" at Bethpage Red.
Â
Yeom's final round performance caps his career-best tournament performance. Playing in only his 11th collegiate tournament, he tied for seventh overall, notching his second career top-10 finish. Yeom finished the tournament at 2-under-par with a 74-66-68-208. It is also Yeom's first career tournament finishing under par.
Â
Collectively, the Pirates fired a 4-over-par, 284, in the final round to finish in second place, five strokes behind the team champion, Rhode Island. Still, the Pirates' 10-under-par, 281-265-284-830, breaks the program record for most strokes under par for any par tournament. The previous record was 8-under-par at the Treasure Coast Classic in 2007. Furthermore, the Pirates' 830 breaks Seton Hall's par 70 record by a remarkable 26 strokes.
Â
Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) was again the top Pirate performer for the tournament. The senior shot a 3-over-par, 73, on Sunday to finish tied for third among 78 individual golfers. For the three-day event, Go was 7-under-par with a 66-64-73-203, and crushes his own Seton Hall record low for a par-70, three-round tournament. The prior record was a 209, set by Go at this tournament in 2013. Furthermore, Go's 7-under-par is the third-most strokes under par for a tournament in Pirates' history.
Â
Sophomore Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines) recorded his first-ever tournament under par with a 1-under-par, 70-67-72-209. He finished tied for 11th.
Â
Linus Yip (Sydney, Australia) made an immediate impression in his first tournament as a Pirate. The junior transfer tied for 15th overall with a 1-over-par, 72-68-71-211.
Â
Rounding out the Seton Hall team scoring was senior Kevin O'Brien (Wexford, Pa.), who finished with a 12-over-par, 73-73-76-222.
Â
Another Pirate newcomer, freshman Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) performed admirably in his first collegiate tournament. He finished tied for 35th with a consistent 6-over-par, 72-72-72-216.

THE DOC GIMMLER
Host:Â St. John's University
Location:Â Farmingdale, N.Y.
Course:Â Bethpage State Park (Red Course)
Course Vitals:Â Par-70, 7,014 yards
Dates:Â September 10-11, 2016, Three Rounds
Â
The Course:
In the early 1930s, the Bethpage Park Authority purchased the Lenox Hills Country Club and other adjacent properties to build what we now know as Bethpage State Park. Famed golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast was hired to design and oversee construction of three new golf courses (Black, Red and Blue) as well as modify the Lenox Hills Course which became the Green Course. Due to the increased demand for golf, the Yellow Course designed by Alfred Tull was opened in 1958. Approximately 300,000 rounds are played annually on the five courses at Bethpage, all of which start from the Clubhouse area.
Â
The 18-hole Red course features long par-4's measuring 7,014 yards from the championship tees. Â With a par of 70, slope of 127, and rating of 72.2, it is the second-most difficult course at the Bethpage facility. Â The course features three sets of tees, so it is both accessible to the average golfer, and a challenge to those with low handicaps. Â The first hole is an uphill par-4 that is 460 yards, a challenge to even experienced players. Â While it may not have the fame of the Black course, it is a challenging course and regularly plays host to tournaments, including the LI Open and the Met Junior PGA.
Â
The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host St. John's, the field is comprised of 11 other teams including: Colgate, Connecticut, Hartford, Harvard, Hofstra, Iona, Johnson & Wales (Fla.), Rhode Island, Saint Peter's, Villanova and Yale.
Â
Up Next:
Seton Hall will return to the links on Monday, Sept. 19 for the first two of three rounds of golf at the Hartford Hawks Invitational.
