SOUTH KENT, CONN. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will return to the links this Monday for the first two of three rounds at the 2016 Hartford Hawks Invitational, Sept. 19-20.
Â
Tournament Details:
HARTFORD HAWKS INVITATIONAL
Host:Â University of Hartford
Location:Â South Kent, Conn.
Course:Â Bull's Bridge Golf Club
Course Vitals:Â Par-72, 6,992 yards
Dates:Â September 19-20, 2016, Three Rounds
Â
The Course:
Nestled in northwestern Connecticut's scenic Litchfield County, Bull's Bridge Golf Club offers a truly unique golf experience. The Berkshire foothills provide an impressive panorama with spectacular views prominent throughout the property. The 18 hole, championship golf course was opened in 2004, and it has quickly commanded the attention of the golf community. Designed by Tom Fazio, one of America's greatest living golf architects, the par-72 layout exemplifies his trademark design versatility. With four sets of tees, two hybrid course layouts and yardages ranging from 5,300 to 7,000 yards, the course simultaneously appeals to and challenges players of all skill levels. While Travel + Leisure Golf rated it one of America's Best New Private Courses in 2004, the course already exhibits a maturity and presentation level well beyond its years.
Â
The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Hartford, the field is comprised of 17 other teams including: Bethune-Cookman, Bryant, Cal Poly, Central Florida, Connecticut, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Fordham, Hofstra, Holy Cross, LIU-Brooklyn, Rhode Island, Rider, Sacred Heart, Sam Houston State, St. John's and Towson.
Â
The Lineup:
Seton Hall will be bringing the following lineup, in order as indicated, to South Kent, Conn.
Â
Â
Last Time at Bull's Bridge:
It will be the eighth time that Seton Hall has participated in this tournament and the fifth year in a row. Last fall, Seton Hall placed fifth among 20 teams with a 7-over-par, 282-292-297-871. The Pirates' first round 282 is tied for the second-best par-72 single-round in program history. Three Pirates shot under par that round, including returnee Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines), who finished the tournament with an impressive 6-under-par, 70-69-71-210. Go tied for fourth among 108 individual golfers, shooting under par all three rounds.Â
Â
Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines) and Chris Yeom (Flushing, N.Y.) also contributed to the team score. Yeom finished at 10-over-par, while Nagai was 18-over-par.
Â
Last Time Out:
Last weekend, the Pirates opened the 2016 fall season in impressive fashion at "The Doc Gimmler."Â Yeom shot a 2-under-par, 68, in Sunday's final round as The Hall finished second among 13 teams at Bethpage Red.
Â
Collectively, the Pirates fired a 4-over-par, 284, in the final round to finish in second place, five strokes behind the team champion, Rhode Island. Still, the Pirates' 10-under-par, 281-265-284-830, broke the program record for most strokes under par for any par tournament. Furthermore, the Pirates' 830 breaks Seton Hall's par 70 record by a remarkable 26 strokes. Their second-round 15-under-par, 265, obliterated the Pirates' previous record low for a single-round par-70 score, which was an even-par, 280. The round is also the most strokes under par for any par course, besting Seton Hall's 9-under-par in the first round of the Loyola Invitational, a par-72 tournament, set last spring.
Â
Go was again the top Pirate performer for the tournament. The senior shot a 3-over-par, 73, on Sunday to finish tied for third among 78 individual golfers. For the three-day event, Go was 7-under-par with a 66-64-73-203, and crushes his own Seton Hall record low for a par-70, three-round tournament. The prior record was a 209, set by Go at this tournament in 2013. Furthermore, Go's 7-under-par is the third-most strokes under par for a tournament in Pirates' history.
Â
Tee Times:
The field will play two rounds (36 holes) on Monday and a single final round on Tuesday. There will be a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. both days.
