Win, Pirates Tied for 8th After Two Rounds at Rutgers
9/16/2016 8:28:00 PM | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Freshman Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) is 5-over-par and has led the Seton Hall women's golf team to an eighth place standing following two rounds of the Rutgers Invitational.
Â
Win followed up her first round 76 with a 1-over-par, 73, in round two and is currently in third place among 70 individual golfers. She trails Rutgers' Emily Mills by five strokes entering Saturday's final round.
Â
Collectively, Seton Hall is 70-over-par with a 352-294-646, and trails the team leader, Delaware, by 35 strokes. The Pirates' lone BIG EAST competition, St. John's, is currently in sixth place, seven strokes ahead of The Hall.
Â
A pair of scorecard errors led to the Pirates' uncharacteristically high first round score. Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) had her first round disqualified and freshman Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) was saddled with a 109. In actuality, both golfers shot a 4-over-par, 76. The errors changed what should have been a 309 to a 352.Â
Â
The Pirates bounced back in a big way in round two however, shooting the lowest single-round score of the day, an 8-over-par, 294. In addition to Win's 73, Sager shot a 2-over-par, 74, and Pantelas had a 3-over-par, 75.
Â
The top individual Pirate round of the day came from junior Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.), who improved 14 strokes from her first round to her second. She fired an even-par, 72, in the latter and is currently tied for 19th with an 86-72-158.
Â
Freshman Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) is tied for 30th place with a 17-over-par, 81-80-161.
Â
Seton Hall sent a pair of individual golfers to Rutgers as well. Sophomore Gianna Tomeo (Bradenton, Fla.) is 17-over-par with a 76-85-161, while classmate Jamie Greene (Troy, Mich.) is just three strokes behind at 20-over-par with an 81-83-164.
