9/20/2016 5:39:00 PM | Men's Golf
SOUTH KENT, CONN. – Senior Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) shot a second consecutive 3-under-par, 69, as the Seton Hall men's golf team finished third at the Hartford Hawks Invitational on Tuesday.
Â
Go finished his round with an eagle to place fourth among 107 golfers with a 6-under-par, 69-69-138. He finished four shots behind Central Florida's Donnie Trosper for the individual title. Go's 138 is the lowest par-72 two-round score in Seton Hall history. It's also his record-breaking 10th sub-par tournament of his career, edging Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famer Eugene Smith who graduated with nine.
Â
Collectively, the Pirates were only one shot worse in round two, finishing with a 5-under-par, 283. Seton Hall ended the tournament at 11-under-par with a 282-283-565, four strokes behind Central Florida for second place and seven shots behind the team champion Cal Poly. St. John's, the Pirates' lone BIG EAST competition in the field, finished seventh, 20 shots behind The Hall.
Â
For a second straight week to start the fall season, the Pirates were assaulting their own record book. Seton Hall's 565 is the lowest par-72 two-round score in team history, besting the prior record by seven strokes set at the Liberty-Seatrail Fall Golf Classic on Sept. 29, 1998.
Â
Two other Pirates joined Go with top-10 finishes. Both Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines) and freshman Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) tied for seventh with identical scores. Both golfers shot a 2-under-par, 70, in both rounds to finish at 4-under-par with a 70-70-140. It's Nagai's second straight sub-par tournament to start the season.
Â
Sophomore Chris Yeom (Flushing, N.Y.) shot a 3-over-par, 74, on Tuesday. For the tournament, he finished tied for 34th with a 3-over-par, 73-74-147.
Â
Junior Linus Yip (Sydney, Australia) rounded out the Pirates' team scoring for the tournament with a 12-over-par, 74-82-156.
Â
Competing as an individual, senior Kevin O'Brien (Wexford, Pa.) finished two strokes behind Yip with a 14-over-par, 76-82-158.
