
Pirates Drop Match at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Sophomore Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) notched a double-double, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to Butler in three sets, 3-0 (24-26, 20-25, 20-25), on Saturday.
The loss snaps a three-match BIG EAST win streak for the Pirates and drops their conference record to 4-3.
SET 1:
The first set was the closest of the match, but the Pirates had to rally from an early deficit. Butler scored six of the first seven points of the match, but The Hall responded with a 10-4 run to take an 11-10 advantage. A kill by Madison Salkowski (Cold Spring, Ky.) extended Seton Hall's lead to 20-17, but the Bulldogs responded by scoring five of the next six points to take a 22-21 lead. The Pirates tied the score at 22, 23 and 24, but Butler was able to outlast them for a 26-24 first set win.
SET 2:
The Hall started out slow again in set two, as Butler scored the first four points, but again the Pirates were able to overcome the early drought. A kill by Sharay Barnes (Swarthmore, Pa.) tied the set at 15, but the Pirates couldn't take the lead. Leading 19-18, Butler ended the second set with a 6-1 run.
SET 3:
Seton Hall took the early advantage in set three, but it was Butler that came back and eventually complete the three-set sweep. An ace by senior Sarah Kenneweg (Poolesville, Md.) put the Pirates in front, 8-5, and prompted an early Butler timeout. Out of the break, the Bulldogs scored five of the next seven points to tie the score at 10. From there, the score was tied six more times before Butler took control late. A kill by Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) gave The Hall a 16-15 lead, but the Bulldogs finished the match on a 10-4 surge.

The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 11 when they host Villanova at Walsh Gym. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.

- Seton Hall recorded a .225 attack percentage for the match, while Butler attacked at .339.
- Seton Hall finished with 41 team kills, while Butler had 50.
- The Pirates totaled 46 team digs, while Butler had 44.
- Seton Hall falls to 10-10 overall and 4-3 in the BIG EAST.
- Butler improves to 14-5 overall and 4-3 in the BIG EAST.
- Cvelbar's double-double is her fifth of the season and the sixth of her career.
- Seton Hall falls to 4-7 in three-set matches this season.
