WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Behind a solid defensive effort and a double-double from Donnaizha Fountain (Roxbury, Mass.) the Seton Hall women's basketball team (2-0) picked up a win at Wake Forest (1-1) by a score of 67-57 on Sunday afternoon at the LJVM Coliseum. Fountain led all players with 18 points and 13 rebounds for her first double-double as a Pirate.
The Pirates did not trail in the second half and staved off a fourth quarter rally, holding the Demon Deacons to 21 points in the second half. Kaela Hilaire (Floral Park, N.Y.) made five clutch free throws down the stretch and finished with 11 points, five assists and three steals off the bench. Taylor Brown (Paterson, N.J.) was the third Pirate in double figures with 11 points, despite being limited to 18 minutes due to foul trouble.
Turning Point
With the Pirates seemingly in control early in the fourth quarter, Wake Forest rattled off six straight points to pull within a possession at 57-55 with 4:30 to play. After a Pirate timeout, Hilaire knocked down two from the line and Fountain hit another to push the lead back to five with 2:45 to play. After another stop, Fountain knocked down a pull-up jumper to push the lead back to three possessions. The Hall then put the clamps on defensively, keeping Wake Forest scoreless over the final 2:16 of regulation to secure the win.
