SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – An explosive second quarter helped the Seton Hall women's basketball team (5-1) to a dominant 85-60 victory over Marist (1-6) on Thursday night at historic Walsh Gymnasium. Taylor Brown (Paterson, N.J.) led five Pirates in double-figures with 16 points in the triumph.
The two sides traded leads in a tight first quarter, but the second frame was all Pirates. The Hall out-scored the Red Foxes 28-7 in the second frame, including a 16-2 run to end the quarter and give the Pirates a 47-22 lead at the half. The Hall led by at least 20 the rest of the way, going up by as many as 33 in the fourth quarter.
The Pirates continued their season-long trend of defensive pressure in the win, forcing 27 Marist turnovers and out-scoring the Red Foxes 32-15 off turnovers. Joining Brown atop the scoring column for The Hall was Inja Butina (Zagreb, Croatia) with a career-high 13 points and JaQuan Jackson (Killeen, Texas) with 12.
Head Coach Anthony Bozzella on the result
"I don't want to single any one player out because I thought top-to-bottom everyone played really well and helped us get this win. Defensively we played a terrific first half and our energy was really the difference."
