NEWARK, N.J. – Five Pirates reached double-figures in scoring and senior Angel Delgado (Bajos De Haina, Dominican Republic) notched his NCAA leading 59th career double-double as the No. 23 Seton Hall men's basketball team defeated Manhattan, 74-62, at the Prudential Center on Saturday.
Fresh off his 26-point game against Wagner on Wednesday, senior Khadeen Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) again led the Pirates today with 15 points on 4-for-6 shooting from the floor. He was also 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. Delgado posted 15 points and a game-high 18 rebounds to complete his ninth double-double of the season.
Senior Desi Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) had 13 points and a game-high five assists, and sophomore Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) also had 13 points to go with four assists. Junior Michael Nzei (Makurdi, Nigeria) added 10 points and five rebounds.
Turning Point:
Seton Hall (11-2) never trailed, despite Manhattan connecting on seven of its first eight shots. After sophomore Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) drained a three-pointer, he stole the ball in transition, and slammed an uncontested dunk to put the Pirates up by double-figures, 30-20, with 10:29 to go before halftime.
Another three-pointer by Powell with 1:01 left, sent the Pirates into the break with their largest lead of the half, 49-27. Overall, The Hall's efficiency in the first half enabled it to build a 22-point lead. The Pirates shot 51.6% from the floor in the first half and were a sparkling 13-for-15 from the free-throw line.
In the second half, the Pirate lead grew to as many as 25 points, and the Jaspers were unable to overcome the significant deficit. Delgado made sure of it with a double-double just in 15 minutes of action in the second half with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
