
Thelen, Mason Excel in Setback to Colorado

NORMAN, OKLA. – Junior Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) notched her first career double-double, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the 2017 campaign, 3-0 (22-25, 18-25, 19-25), to Colorado on Saturday.
Thelen led the Pirates with 13 kills and 11 digs as Seton Hall fell to 1-1 at its season-opening Oklahoma Invitational in Norman, Okla.
SET 1:
The Pirates fell behind early in set one as Colorado jumped out to a 14-8 lead, but Seton Hall went on an 8-2 run to tie the set at 16. After the Buffalos took the lead again, a block by Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) tied the score at 22. Colorado however, scored the final three points of the frame to win 25-22. Thelen got off to a fast start, leading the Pirates with seven kills and four digs.
SET 2:
Set two started close, but with the scored tied at six, Colorado scored five unanswered points to take an 11-6 advantage and never looked back. The Pirates prevented the Buffalos from running away with the set, but couldn't pull closer than three points the rest of the way. Colorado won set two, 25-18, attacking successfully at a .316 clip, while the Pirates attack percentage was just .103.
SET 3:
With the score tied at nine in set three, the Buffalos went on an 8-2 run to take a commanding 17-11 lead. Colorado eventually closed out the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-0. The Pirates hit a team-high .214 attack percentage in set three, but allowed Colorado to connect at a match-best .341 percentage.

The Pirates will continue play at the Oklahoma Invitational later today when it faces Northwestern State at 5:30 pm ET.

- Junior Dominique Mason (Chicago, Ill.) finished with 12 kills and a .308 attack percentage.
- Junior Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) notched a season-high 24 assists to go with six digs.
- Freshman Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) had her best match as a collegian, setting career-highs with four kills and a team-best four blocks.
- Seton Hall recorded a .167 attack percentage for the match, while Colorado attacked at .292.
- Seton Hall finished with 41 team kills, while Colorado had 47.
- The Pirates totaled 48 team digs, while Colorado had 46.
- Thelen has led the Pirates in kills in both matches so far this season.
- Both Thelen and Mason have now reached double-figures in kills twice so far this season.
- This was the first-ever meeting between Seton Hall and Colorado.
- Coffey played in her 64 consecutive match, which leads all active Pirates.
