SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Dominique Mason (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a double-double, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to No. 14 Creighton in straight sets, 3-0 (24-26, 12-25, 21-25), on Friday.
SET 1:
The first was one of the best single-set performances of the season for Seton Hall. The epic, back-and-forth frame featured six lead changes and 13 ties, as the Pirates went toe-to-toe with the defending BIG EAST champions. Creighton scored the first four points of the set, but the Pirates stormed back with a 9-2 run to take an early 9-6 advantage. The set remained close throughout, but a kill by Creighton's Lydia Dimke gave the Bluejays a 23-22 lead and prompted a Pirate timeout. Out of the break, a kill by Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) tied the score and a Creighton attack error put the Pirates in set point, 24-23. The Bluejays bounced back however, and closed the frame with three straight points to win the marathon set, 26-24. The Pirates out-hit Creighton, .267-to-.257.
SET 2:
Creighton jumped on the Pirates from the start in set two. Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) scored the first point of the set for The Hall, but the Bluejays went on a 6-0 run and never looked back. A kill by Mason cut the Creighton lead to 11-7, but the Bluejays went on a 9-2 run to take a commanding 20-9 advantage. Creighton went on to win the second set, 25-12.
SET 3:
After a disappointing set two, the Pirates didn't fold. The Hall trailed for most of the set, but kept the score close, and a block by Madison Salkowski (Cold Spring, Ky.) tied the score at 14. Creighton bounced back however, with four of the next five points and never trailed again. The Bluejays won set three, 25-21, and the match, 3-0.
Inside the Numbers:
The Pirates will return to action tomorrow when they host Providence at Walsh Gym. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
