NEW YORK - The Seton Hall men's basketball team has been placed in the top 20 of the national rankings for a second week in a row and fifth time this season. The Hall is No. 19 in this week's Associated Press and USA Today Coaches top 25 polls.
In addition, senior Angel Delgado (Bajos De Haina, Dominican Republic) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fifth time this season after picking up his NCAA-leading 63rd and 64th career double-doubles.Â
Delgado averaged 11.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 blocks in Seton Hall's 1-1 week. He had 12 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two assists in a loss at Marquette and then had 11 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and two blocks in a win over Georgetown. He has posted five or more assists in five of the last seven games and now has double-doubles in 17 consecutive BIG EAST games.
The Pirates have now been ranked 10 out of a possible 11 times by the Associated Press and all 10 possible times by the Coaches Poll this season. The No. 19 ranking is Seton Hall's second of the season; the Pirates were also No. 19 on Dec. 4, 2017. The Hall is 6-2 all-time when ranked No. 19.
Seton Hall is 15-3 overall and 4-1 in the BIG EAST, which is tied with Villanova for first place in the conference. The Pirates will now navigate a difficult schedule this week as they take on the two teams that are right behind them in the standings. They will face 4-2 Creighton, which is the first team outside the top 25 poll this week, Wednesday night in Omaha and then take on No. 11 Xavier, also 4-2, Saturday at a sold-out Prudential Center.
