Pirates Roll Past Jefferson In Exhibition

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's basketball team scored early and often en route to a 95-81 victory over Jefferson University on Thursday night in an exhibition contest at Walsh Gym. The contest was the final tune-up before the regular season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Victoria Cardaci (Holmdel, N.J.) led five Pirates in double-figures with a game-high 20 points by way of six 3-pointers, while freshman Femi Funeus (Plantation, Fla.) recorded a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double. The Pirates knocked down 13 shots from 3-point range, employing a new fast-paced offense that saw them attempt 76 field goals and 25 free throws.

How it Happened
The Hall jumped out of the gate emphatically, scoring the first 10 points of the contest and going up 16-1 in the first four and half minutes of play. That fast start led to a 31-point first quarter, but Jefferson battles back to pull within nine at the half.

The Pirates would come out in the third quarter and put the contest away in short order, out-scoring the Rams 31-12 in the third period. The Hall ballooned its lead to as many as 32 late in the third and cruised to the double-digit victory.

The Pirates shot 44.7 percent (34-76) from the floor and 36.1 percent (13-36) from 3-point range
In addition to Cardaci's 20 points, Nicole Jimenez (Miami, Fla.) added 17, Shadeen Samuels (Ossining, N.Y.) scored 15 and Inja Butina (Zagreb, Croatia) chipped in 11
The Pirates assisted on 22 of their 34 field goals, led by nine helpers from Butina
The Hall finished with a slight 50-49 edge on the glass thanks to 13 boards from Funeus, eight from Samuels and seven for Kimi Evans (Jackson, N.J.)
Butina recorded three of The Hall's eight steals, while Evans had two of SHU's four blocks
